Articles, Awards, News, & Testimonials Date: 11/2009 Cobb Hill Participates in National Weatherization DayCobb Hill, the Community Action Program of Belknap Merrimack Counties (CAP-BM) and the State Office of Energy and Planning demonstrated the auditing and weatherization program to Governor John Lynch on November 2nd in Concord. Rob Bowers, a CAP-BM weatherization auditor, demonstrated how the blower door and infrared camera are used together to diagnose heat loss and airflow. From those diagnostics plus additional inspection and information, a comprehensive weatherization plan and work order are created for each home audited. The Cobb Hill team receives work orders from CAP-BM and performs the work requested and then performs a final blower door and infrared test to confirm the modifications. Homes selected are scored on a priority basis of financial need, insulation levels, high energy usage, as well as whether a household has elderly, infants or the disabled present.
The work usually includes air sealing all of the building's heating escape routes, upgrading door seals, adding pipe insulation, basement insulation and additional blown cellulose attic and wall insulation where required. The average home takes a Cobb Hill weatherization team of three 2 to 3 days to complete.
